Some FO's

I've got a couple of fo's to share. I have a few ongoing projects, too. I picked up my needles on my Americano vest again. And I'm still making thousands (an exaggeration, maybe) of granny squares for Zach's mario blanket.

Here's a quick project -Berroco's Wink -that I made while watching an episode of Glee. Talk about instant gratification. Although I think an hour is really all I could stand knitting with size 35 needles. They're like broomsticks. Really. The yarn was a total splurge but, I think the result is really cute and I love the earthy colors. Will I look like a crazy knitting lady if I wear this huge chunky scarf, though?

 

 The husband requested a slouchy hat but, not just any hat -a beard hat. Don't know what I'm talking about? I reminded him that I was slaving away on granny squares but, he pulled the cute puppy eye thing and I was powerless. So, he purchased a pattern from By Laura Design and it was another fast project. I haven't completed the beard yet so stay tuned.

The Fall season seems to increase my crafty productivity. Summertime makes me lazy! Whatever it is -I've got the crafty bug again. Is there a particular time of year that makes you feel crafty?

As I said in my last post, I met some really awesome ladies at the Indie Style Market. I also wanted to share some photos I took of the flea market itself. As I mentioned before, this flea market catered to those hunting dollar store type bargains rather than vintage or antique (what I think of when I think flea market) I did find a few lovely things.

Indie Style Market Wrap up/Update

Hello Blogland, I think I missed you. It has been a crazy few weeks. How are ya?

Last weekend my mom and I packed up the car and headed to Memphis for the Indie Style Market. We had a few things working against us but, I was determined to go.  I had been sick all week (still am) and because of all the flooding the interstate was closed. I should also mention that whenever I have a cold my laugh resembles that of Fran Drescher/The Nanny. This alone is usually reason to stay locked up in the house. But, as I said, I was determined so we took the back roads and expected the trip to be about 3 hours longer than usual.

 This year's Oscars watching party was especially fun. We munched on homemade caramel corn (so simple to make) and other delicious snacks. We played Oscar Bingo, courtesy of How About Orange, and made our own predictions, ballots courtesy of Twig and Thistle.

 We loved Natalie Portman's earrings so I was super excited to see this tutorial posted over at CRAFT:. I didn't see very many of this past year's films so my predictions were way off.  I did enjoy a nice little party with my family and friends! And I have a lot of short films that I must see. What were your favorite films of the year?

Sewing Hiatus Has Ended -Meet Mr. Pig

I ended my long hiatus from my sewing machine with this little guy. He was about half machine sewn and the rest was done by hand. I used scraps from my vintage pile. His feet are a little wonky because the only plain black fabric I had was jersey. I'm not going to say sewing those itty bitty limbs was super fun but, I adore the end result. He needs a name don't you think? Any suggestions?

I kinda love how this picture came out. Mr. Pig looks as if he's telling a corny joke like this one: "Did you hear about the piglets who wanted to do something special for mother’s day?" "What did they do?" "They threw a sowprize party." Mr. Froggy is just not impressed.

I followed the pattern from Sew Me, Love Me and the instructions were well laid out and easy to follow. The photos in this book are lovely. All her little stuffed friends have a sweet homey look to them. Lots of patchwork and button details. I've already started on the next one!

Time for Tea

When I saw this adorable charm bracelet at ModCloth I was completely in love. My day just doesn't feel right without at least one cup of tea. I recently came across a tiny tea set that was meant for a dollhouse. I'm not much for wearing charm bracelets, cute as they are, so I made some little earrings. Some for me and a pair for etsy with the extras.

Ah, finally... a completed sewing project. I'm quite proud of this one, even though I literally hit a snag here and there. But, one broken needle later and many glances at the manual and I have this retro beauty.
I'm not new to sewing but, I'd still call myself a beginner. I used the folk bag pattern from the book, One Yard Wonders (which means this purse only cost me $12 to make!) The instructions were easy to follow and I learned a much smarter way to make a pocket and insert a lining. I'm going to make another one of these bags with the Heather Ross ponies fabric I've been saving. I had a bit of fabric left over so maybe a matching ipod case or card wallet is to follow.
